After reading Natural Sciences at Cambridge Mark did his articles at McKenna & Co. Mark joined Schilling & Lom in 1988, and became a Partner in 1992. He joined Carter-Ruck in 2002.
Mark specialises in all aspects of media law, including defamation, confidence, privacy and copyright and acts for both claimants and defendants. He also practices in the areas of copyright and passing off and does media regulatory work.
Mark is well known for acting for a number of high profile clients such as Jay Jopling, Marco Pierre White, Vodafone, Keira Knightley, Naomi Campbell, Kate Winslet, Simon le Bon, Lily Allen, Sienna Miller, Margaret McDonagh, Lord Sawyer, Ewan McGregor, Martin Sorrell, WPP, Michelle Collins, Jarvis, Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie and Michael Sheen. Mark also acts for a number of politicians.
Mark was involved in the landmark privacy cases of Campbell v MGN, Campbell v Frisbee and McKennitt v Ash.
Mark is the Co-contributor to the book “Privacy in the Media - The Developing Law”, edited by Hugh Tomlinson QC, and has written numerous articles on privacy libel and media law. He is currently writing “The Law of Personal Privacy” for Hart Publishing together with Hugh Tomlinson QC and David Sherborne.
Mark regularly gives seminars and lectures to the profession on all aspects of media law. At Parliament’s invitation, Mark gave evidence in February 2009 at the House of Commons before the Culture, Media and Sport Committee’s inquiry into press standards, privacy and libel. See link
