Nicola graduated from Exeter University with a first class degree in History and English. Having decided to convert to law, she was awarded a Graduate Diploma in Law from BPP Law School in London and, after completing her LPC, trained with Carter-Ruck for two years. Nicola qualified as a solicitor in 2009, specialising in all areas of media litigation, including defamation, misuse of private information and harassment.
Nicola has acted for a wide range of clients, including politicians, actors, musicians, private individuals, religious leaders and restaurant chains, in a number of successful actions, both pre and post publication, against newspapers and broadcasters.
In 2008, for example, Nicola assisted in acting for Charley Uchea, the reality television celebrity, in her libel action against the Daily Star. She also assisted in acting for His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III, the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, in a successful libel action against the London based Arabic language newspaper Asharq Al Awsat.
More recently, Nicola assisted Mark Thomson in acting for Sienna Miller in her unprecedented harassment and privacy proceedings, which resulted in Big Pictures giving undertakings to the Court not to pursue or “doorstep” Ms Miller.
On qualification, Nicola chose to move to Atkins Thomson, where she has rejoined Mark Thomson, and where she continues to work on high profile media cases.
